Asphodellus – Stygian Dreams

I have to say I like a lot what bands as Asphodellus do in “Stygian Dreams.” I know I told that a lot in my reviews and I look like a child that has received the first chocolate bar. The thing is I can’t help it for I get so excited with heavy music. I guess most of you who actually read reviews like music a lot otherwise you wouldn’t be reading reviews. The contrast they get with the slow and deep instrumental with a graspy voice touches me. It’s one of the things I love most about Metal. I remember to listen Judas Priest for the first time and get astonished with the effect of the guitar duels with the thundering basis.

Title track “Stygian Dreams” is such a beautiful piece with its strong guitar riff and a sweet an simple keyboarding. Guitars in “Stygian Dreams” simply seem to be telling a story. There are eight tracks in “Stygian Dreams” and they are a bit linear. By linear I mean that they aren’t so different from each other. To me that’s not a bad thing because sometimes one need to know what to expect from a band, and I like what I hear in “Stygian Dreams.” No doubt about that. Well, it’s not the end of the world to have an album with eight tracks that follow a pattern. By no means an awful thing. As I said once, on the other hand, it shows that Asphodellus have a personality and do what they believe in. Bands have to stick to their beliefs otherwise there is no reason to go on. By the way, the final sequence in “Where Freezing Spirits Fall” is a killer. The mesmerizing guitar phrase does a lot of damage creating the monstrous end.

Asphodellus “Stygian Dreams” will be released on February 15th via Terror from Hell Records.
