SubRosa Is Breaking Up/ Going on Hiatus/ Whatever You Wanna Call It

We shoulda seen the writing on the wall: before today, SubRosa hadn’t updated their Facebook page since last July, and we haven’t gotten an official press release about them since 2016, when they released their last studio album, For This We Fought the Battle of Ages. Still, they were touring as recently as last year, so we did not see this coming: in a lengthy statement released via Facebook, the band has announced that they’re “calling it quits (for now),” primarily because they wanna put their energy into other creative endeavors.

I’m glad they’re not being a bunch of sillies and shutting the door on the idea on ever playing together again (because, as I’ve said about billion times now, every band reunites eventually). I’m not so glad that SubRosa will cease to exist (for now) while every band on Spotify’s New Core playlist marches onward (for now). That’s a real bummer.

“To all of our beautiful, supportive fans and friends,

“After a magical 13-year run, SubRosa is calling it quits (for now). Rebecca decided she wanted to focus on her solo project, The Keening, and Kim, Sarah, Levi and Andy have all been able to focus their creative energies on other musical ventures. We would never have experienced our dreams as reality without you, and we cannot thank you enough. Rather than despairing over what is lost, we want to continue this journey with you. We are all on fire right now writing new music:
