Hey everyone!
I've been a Metallica fan for years, love me some Deth and Maiden, now it's time to expand my horizons! I know there's a recommendation topic, but I feel like I'm gonna blab on for a while and that warrants its own topic.
Basically, I've got three categories that I'm looking to jump into. Song language for the most part doesn't matter.
1) Vocals, more about epic storytelling than pure aggression. Something like Maiden or Sabbath.
2) the songs that don't waste any time punching you in the face. Master of Puppets, Holy Wars, Meshuggah: Bleed, that sort of vibe.
3) Metallica: One, for my money, is the best constructed song I've ever heard, across any genre. The first half of the song is a gradual build, full of restraint, and it earns the second half, which is a 3 minute instrumental explosion of sheer brutality. I put Pantera: Domination in this category as well. Basically, category 3 is songs that build to prolonged, brutal instrumental outros. If you introduce me to a song that hits me as hard as One does, you have changed my life more than I'll ever be able to thank you for.
Thanks so much!
