Cursebinder – Psychohazard

Drifting was a wonderful debut album for Cursebinder, but this second offering is superior on every level. The band takes the best elements of Mgła, White Ward and Dormant Ordeal, throws in scorching riffs, addicting groove, extreme vocal talent, a masterclass of drum and bass playing, some jazz experimentation, and songwriting inspiration that makes Psychohazard stand taller than most of the black metal that comes out today. Progressive, post-, -gaze… whatever you put next to the black to describe the music, there is one thing that is indisputable: Psychohazard captures your attention from the start and never lets it go. Spineshank – Grimsby, England, 25th October 2026

Music is always best enjoyed with a personal connection, and nostalgia is a powerful drug. I don't know Spineshank personally, but this review will read more as a personal blog than a credited review due to my experiences with this band and where the show took place. Do I Suck For… Letting A Singer’s On-Stage Antics Make Me Hate The Band?

Smokey Goretooth back again, wondering how we’re already halfway through October. I’ve also got a new “Do I Suck?,” MetalSucks’ version of “Am I The Asshole?” where we take real life horror stories and bring them to our readers to decide if the OP sucks for some bullshit they may or may not have done. This week’s post comes from a somewhat disgruntled (ex) fan, who let the visuals totally ruin the music. You’ll see what I mean… Hate is probably a strong word, but golly did the whole thing leave a bad taste in my mouth. The “mouth” part of this is specific, because it was what the vocalist was doing with his mouth that made me feel icky. So I’ve been listening to this band for years but haven’t seen them live yet. I don’t necessarily wanna call them out by name because I don’t want anyone coming for me, but I’ll say their band name has a word in it that rhymes with “fight.” I ...

Mental Cruelty – Echoes Of A Forlorn Land

appear to have reinvented themselves once again, leaving their symphonic deathcore days behind and charging headfirst down the path of rampaging and pillaging. Kicking the gates of Valhalla clean off their hinges, this berserker of a record unleashes a maelstrom of blackened fury, overtly folk-inflected melodies and gloriously grandiose arrangements. This is so ridiculously good, it might actually fill the -shaped hole in my heart. All aboard the hype train! Or hype longship! Or whatever other means of transportation the Vikings used when they were absolutely fucking stoked. La entrada Mental Cruelty – Echoes Of A Forlorn Land se publicó primero en METALEROS 💀 .

Do I Suck For… Not Wiping My Pee Off The Seat At A Venue?

It’s me, ya girl Smokey Goretooth with another new “Do I Suck?,” MetalSucks’ version of “Am I The Asshole?” where we take real life horror stories and bring them to our readers to decide if the OP sucks for some bullshit they may or may not have done. This week’s, a user named “@pee_pee_pew_pew,” who definitely pewpewed the top of a toilet seat with some pee pee. Let’s have her explain it… I’m usually not the kind of person who would just let a seat in a public bathroom go undried, but last night was a different story. I was three sheets to every known wind system imaginable at a show, and I feel like that should be taken into consideration before any immediate judgement. So I was in a stall doing my business, and I was hovering over the toilet because I’d never sit on a public toilet unless I absolutely HAVE to. Sometimes, especially depending on brute force of the push, you...

Evanescence – Sanctuary

After an album that divided fans following more than a decade of anticipation (The Bitter Truth, released in 2021), most people likely did not expect a new effort from Amy Lee's band in little more than half that time. Set in motion by the departure of Jen Majura, the band's guitarist for seven years, Sanctuary began taking shape shortly after Emma Anzai took over bass duties and Tim McCord returned to guitar—an instrument he has always maintained was more "his thing." Despite the many factors that contributed to the lukewarm reception of the previous work from Evanescence's loyal fanbase—including a muddy mix and final production touches that fell well short of what the band deserved—Sanctuary arrived as a kind of proof that there was still hope for Amy Lee and her team to thrive. Well... at least it seems so. Read more… La entrada Evanescence – Sanctuary se publicó primero en METALEROS 💀 .

Disgruntled Dad Reviews with DAVE MUSTCOMPLAIN: INSOMNIUM – ‘Netherworlds’

Just got back from running my Sunday morning errands and Jesus Fucking Christ, $163.27 to fill up my Ford F150. Are you fucking kidding me? According to my Facebook newsfeed, this is still Joe Biden’s fault, which I wholeheartedly believe even if I don’t entirely understand it. Goddamn, that worthless little shitbird has been out of office for going on two years now, and he’s still making life hell for us good and decent folks. I could go on for days here, but I’d better stop before I get too riled up. Looks like I’ll be reviewing an album by some band called Insomnium today. I did a little digging and it looks like they’re from Finland. Is that a real country? Sounds made up to me, but I was too busy partying and getting laid to pay attention in Geography class in high school. Still managed to get a C- though, because I’m a fucking king. Anyway, here’s my review of Netherworlds . ...

Enslaved – Mið

A band obsessed with making sense of the world, traditions past and present, and what it means to be human; Enslaved have spent their three and a half decade history offering music to said world through a Viking lens. A mixture of black and progressive metal, the band surely needs no introduction, but Mið is Enslaved through a slightly different lens; a self described "new beginning". Carnifex – Until I Feel Nothing

After releasing the mature and masterful Hell Chose Me, it seems that Carnifex started to turn a corner and finally gained some attention and respect from outside the boundaries of deathcore. Their popularity expanded, they began to get on bigger tours with bigger acts, and even traveled to countries such as Australia and Singapore. However, they still remained overlooked and overshadowed by peer bands such as Whitechapel and Suicide Silence, but this would not stop their vicious conquest. Throughout the course of 2011, Carnifex put together their fourth album Until I Feel Nothing, eventually releasing it on October 25th of that year only days before Halloween. Volubilis – Theasterion

The era of globalization and the internet has pushed most genres and niches beyond the geographical confines in which they developed; we’re no longer getting most new melodic death metal bands coming from Gothenburg or stoner metal bands emerging from the California desert. This isn’t a universal rule, however, as any time I discover a particularly noteworthy new technical death metal artist, there’s a good chance that they’re from Québec. Hippotraktor – Annihilist

Psychonaut and Hippotraktor are two closely entwined yet distinct acts, almost two sides of the same coin. We have been treated regularly throughout the 2020s to the two bands alternating album releases almost every year, and Hippotraktor continue to rise to the challenge set by their brethren each time. DISGRUNTLED DAD REVIEWS With DAVE MUSTCOMPLAIN: HATESPHERE – GUILLOTINE

Why? Why why why? I wake up this morning to get my daily news fix from totally unbiased sources on Facebook , and I find out Mike Ditka passed away. Goddamnit. From being a dynamite coach who took us to a Super Bowl during my senior year of high school, to being an outspoken proponent of the GREATEST PRESIDENT in U.S. HISTORY DONALD TRUMP , he was everything us residents of Bloomington, Illinois aspire to be, and he was taken from us way too soon. I guess it’s true that only the good die young. Anyway, as you can guess, I am not in a good mood. What am I listening to today? Hatesphere ? Good. Great. Whatever. Track 1: Chapter XII Only two and a half minutes? Skip. Track 2: Dogma Ugh, I’m already getting a fucking migraine from this chaotic bullshit. I bet Mike Ditka wouldn’t be a fan of this. He probably loved Bad Company , just like I do. God, we probably would’ve b...

The Acacia Strain – Servant In The Place Of Truth

This is an elusive, forgotten, and often overlooked smaller but still important contribution to the vast discography of The Acacia Strain. Why is it important you might ask? Well, after spending years on Prosthetic Records and having released the bulk of their discography through them at the time, The Acacia Strain's contract with the record label officially ended and it was time to find a new distributor. Oddly enough, the band went through with one of the most unlikely candidates possible, Rise Records. Having been home to many different and softer bands over the years such as Attack Attack!, The Devil Wears Prada, Of Mice & Men, and Emarosa, it’s questionable why a band such as The Acacia Strain would join such a label. However, here and there meaner and more beastly names such as The Red Shore, Those Who Lie Beneath and A Different Breed Of Killer would release quality deathcore through Rise Records and prove that this label does have a certain soft spot for some heavines...

The Acacia Strain – The Dead Walk

The Acacia Strain was slowly carving out their reputation and making more of a name for themselves. Through cycling members and constantly adjusting their ever-growing sound, they gained more fans and hype in the process, with their infectious energy and Vincent Bennett’s charisma leading them forward. Five years into their career, The Acacia Strain would release their third record, none other than The Dead Walk. The Dead Walk may not have the same sophistication and depth as later records, but is still a vital staple in the band’s overall catalog, and is a great demonstration and display of the fiery hatred and intensity that largely defines The Acacia Strain.
